Build Master Noticeboard[]

Since admins shouldn't really be making removals on votes that require thought into whether a vote needs to be removed, maybe a BN noticeboard could be made. If there is a vote that you feel is wrong, you could raise it on the BM noticeboard for discussion or to raise the attention of a BM. Obviously if a troll vote is made it can still be noted on the AN but for the votes that would require a BM, it could be used. Also means BM's don't have to go searching round RC and RRating to find wrong/bad votes. PvXwiki:Build_Master_noticeboard.--Frosty 13:23, 15 December 2008 (EST)

I believe around the introduction of BMs I suggested such a thing, but for whatever reason we decided not to. For instance, a few weeks back we only had 1 active BM (the others not being able to come on for various reasons). When you look at the amount of requests we get on here, a singal BM couldn't handle it all, so Admins are informed as well, and can remove the ones that are obviously wrong... ~ PheNaxKian Sysop 13:34, 15 December 2008 (EST)
Obviously wrong like "SH only has Adjacent range" or votes like "Cripshot is terrible" not votes that disagree with your opinion on a build. If you want to do that make an RFBM.----ﮎHædõ๘یíɳShadowsin sig 13:39, 15 December 2008 (EST)
Obvious fail votes yes I can agree with but then when anything contestable comes up a BM needs to know about it, because admins may and probably don't have the knowledge to decide whether removal is neccesarry. --Frosty 17:24, 15 December 2008 (EST)
Assume they do. — Rapta Rapta Icon1 (talk|contribs) 00:53, 16 December 2008 (EST)
No, You assume they do when they create RFBM and get it. Otherwise you assume they don't.----ﮎHædõ๘یíɳShadowsin sig 11:37, 16 December 2008 (EST)
No, you assume they do on the basis that you assume that they have enough self-judgment to be removing votes on issues that they are able to make an informed decision upon. Assume good faith. The moral here: don't be a douche. They're admins for a reason. That includes knowing what they themselves are capable of judging appropriately. If you're going to QQ, do so in the policy page for Admins. — Rapta Rapta Icon1 (talk|contribs) 15:47, 16 December 2008 (EST)

Keep it admin. Buildmasters have something better to do then removing trolls. —ǘŋƐxɩsƫ 14:52, 14 January 2009 (EST)

Build Janitors[]

Like an admin but with no power to ban/remove votes and all that stuff. It would really help the wiki if a few people would be able to delete all the stupid redirects/welltaged/deletetaged build pages. Obviously would need some work but it means less crap for admins to do so they can get on making new stuff for the wiki, or more time to harass GWshack to fix or fucking outdated skills). Generally a Janitor, I know it would be hard to implement but just giving suggesting to how the wiki could move forward, instead of this current staticness. --Frosty 22:14, 21 December 2008 (EST)

Display issues with Safari Browser[]

Well, I recently downloaded the new Safari browser and i like it a lot. However, there seems to be some kind of display issue with PvX. The navigation bar that is supposed to appear on the left hand side of each article is just a blank white area and the links from that are pushed down to the very bottom of the page below the white area. Could be something to do with my computer, but can someone else using safari confirm? Thanks Peter 02:58, 26 September 2008 (EDT)

Yea, the sidebar links are getting pushed down below the article body on every page. I'll look into it and see if I can change the css or something to fix it if I have time. Hhhippo might know how to fix it. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 17:44, 26 September 2008 (EDT)
Nothing I've tried fixes it. It's entirely possible it's a safari bug. But if anyone else who knows some css wants to try to figure it out, here's a summary of what I tried:
  1. Reducing the width of the article body and/or sidebar just leaves a bigger gap between them.
  2. Changing the white-space:nowrap in the h4, h5, and h6's for .portlet to white-space:normal removes the big section of whitespace, and the sidebar looks normal... except that it's still shoved down below the article.
  3. Changing the border, padding, and margin for .portlet and #pBody did nothing.
I tried more than this, but I don't remember it all. Also, guildwiki, GWW, and wikipedia all look normal in Safari. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 18:26, 26 September 2008 (EDT)
Confirmed, no other wikis seem to be having this issue. Peter 07:53, 27 September 2008 (EDT)
Opera, IE, Firefox, and Chrome all load the wiki fine. I'm guessing it's a rendering issue in Safari. If you want, I could try to write up a CSS that'll fix it for just you that you can put in your monobook. Cedave bad  ツ cedave (☆contributions☆) 20:24, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
If it was a rendering issue would it not an effect on the other wikis? Its not a huge problem by an stretch of the imagination, just a bit inconvenient. I will contact apple and see what they say....Peter 04:26, 29 September 2008 (EDT)

(EC)Also the white part is a huge link to the main page. I do not know if that would help though. Fox007 User:Fox007 14:49, 2 December 2008 (EST)
This is exactly the same problem I have with my Safari Browser, it seems to push everything down to the bottom of the articles for some reason, most likely because the advert does not fit in the navigation bar. However, as above, widening this seemed to have no effect. Any coding experts out there? Peter 14:09, 3 December 2008 (EST)
Keep in mind, Chrome is still beta. You'd have to wait until it was production-state for anyone to bother submitting an aesthetic fix. However, it sounds like a browser rendering issue in the way that IE renders things differently than Firefox. It might get fixed by Google, but there's a solid chance you'll have to edit your personal Monobook file. (I'm not entirely sure if this is possible, however. =/) 128.255.195.88 08:10, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Vote Wipe Button[]

Could BM's/Admins possibly get a vote wipe button, where it asks you for the reason and then all the votes get removed for that reason? Helpful for vote wipes if it was a minor change etc. ~~     Frvwfr2     talk    contribs    admin   18:57, 18 December 2008 (EST)

Special:ProblemReports and PvXwiki:ProblemReports[]

Something odd is going on here. First of all, I'm pretty sure that there should be some server side code that auto-inserts a redirect to the Special page corresponding the the problem. Build talk:Team - SoO Sinway[]

Prior to my two edits (undoing last edit and reinserting comment) the linked talk page was broken, and would only pop an error message. When looking at the last diff, you could go to "later" diffs, which were all empty edits with the same revision number. It's now editable again, but no matter which revision you edit, it will state you're editing an out-of-date version of the talk page. I don't know if deleting/undeleting will do anything (cannot try it myself), so I figured it might be best put here. --- Ohaider! -- (contribs) (talk) 11:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Watchlist not clearing[]

I've noticed some entries on my watchlist are not clearing and recognising that I have visited them. An example at the moment is this diff. I've been to that page multiple times since that change was made, but the page keeps returning to bold on my watchlist. This seems to be happening randomly with pages, in some cases that were changed days ago with more recent entries correctly remaining unbolded above. Uh, and to add to the weirdness, the Admin Noticeboard just removed itself from my watchlist. Misery CowMisery Says Moo 14:11, September 27, 2009 (UTC)
Happens to me all the time too =/ I think the diff's don't remove from the watchlist because that's like viewing the history of the page or something, go figure my logic. Do you mean "clearing" as not vanishing from the list or still staying bold? They should vanish from the list upon commenting on the page. ---Chaos is gay - 14:15, September 27, 2009 (UTC)
Staying bold. Also, I ALWAYS use diffs when I check pages and it has always worked before. Also also, I tried just visiting the page to clear it and it didn't work. Also also aside, making them "vanish" when you edit them is a specific setting in your preferences, you can turn it off if you want to. Misery CowMisery Says Moo 16:39, September 27, 2009 (UTC)

Some templates become invalid when downloaded[]

When the template code contains a "+", this "+" is html decoded to a " ", because + is the url escape characer for a space. So a link like "http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:DownloadTemplate?build=OQCjUqnLqSPY+iAAVYiYaYubybA&name=P/any%20Song%20of%20Purification%20Paragon" becomes "http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:DownloadTemplate?build=OQCjUqnLqSPY iAAVYiYaYubybA&name=P/any%20Song%20of%20Purification%20Paragon", which results in a template file with an invalid code. This could be a browser issue with Opera only, or a bug in the DownloadTemplate. See for an example: Build:P/any Song of Purification ParagonTHC4k 23:46, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

I might have a good solution, actually. Just block the class/id of the ads using greasemonkey CSS. It still loads them, thus telling wikia to stop telling adblock to fuck off and loading the rest of the page normally AND without ad-goatse. 173.30.221.45 02:03, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

SSL/SOCKS and Ratings[]

Right now, users surfing the web via UltraSurf, and quite possibly other secure proxy networks, cannot view Ratings pages. When a Ratings page is served to a user behind UltraSurf, an error is thrown.

Set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; at the bottom of LocalSettings.php to show detailed debugging information.

Now, were this an isolated case, I wouldn't bring it up. It's along the same lines as browser compatability in a lot of aspects. However, Wikia, like many other information sites, is blocked by the Great Firewall of China, therefore automatically excluding any users from that region from participating in vetting or even viewing the ratings. Seeing as most, if not all, other pages are served correctly, this must have to do with an exception in how the ratings page is served.

Daññy 22:22, September 19, 2010 (UTC)
Our Job Queue is at around 370 pages (I imagine that's the Archived builds considering we've not done anything else to make it not 0, certinaly not that effects 370(+) pages). I don't know what the "jobRunRate" variable is set to, so i can't give a definite "time" as it were (it decreases on page views, not actual time), but by default I believe it does one page per page view (which i don't think it will be for us because we rarely have a job queue), but you can set it to run less frequently (not sure on the limit, but MW says you can have it set to "1 job run per 100 page views").
tl;dr: give it some time and it'll "fix itself" as it were. ~ PheNaxKian talk 00:33, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
