Revision as of 11:17, 20 June 2008

As this is a noticeboard and not a talk page, please refrain from discussing!

The Admin noticeboard

There are a number of issues that can only be solved by an Administrator. The Admin noticeboard is one of the means through which users can contact Administrators in order to identify a problem that needs Administrative attention. Although editors are welcome to directly contact particular Administrators, posting on this page instead may be an easier way to let the entire Administrative group know of the issue (which may be particularly helpful since it increases the odds that at least one Administrator will see, and thus be able to respond to, the issue promptly).

There are only a limited number of things for which this page should be used. Many problems can be solved without Administrative intervention, and, thus, this page should be restricted to those issues that actually require an Administrator. Those are: blocking vandals, (un)deleting pages, (un)protecting pages, removing votes (either as per Real Vetting or because the build has been substantially edited), and mediation (only if the situation demands it).

Even in cases of vandalism, posting on this page needn't be the first step (and indeed should not be the first step). If you see vandalism, just go ahead and revert it, anyone has the power to do so. If it's a new article with no safe version to revert back to, tag it for deletion. In both cases you should leave a message in the talk page of that user to make him/her aware of why that kind of edit is unacceptable on PvXwiki. Only post here if that user persists in his/her actions, ignoring the warnings or if the content requires immediate Administrative attention (eg. if the material on the page is so offensive that should be immediately deleted).

(Be careful in case that user repeatedly insists on vandalizing, avoid a revert war; it's far better to temporarily leave the vandalized version of the page up until an admin has a chance to intervene.)

To create a new request: add an item to the bottom of the list below, providing a brief, neutral summary of the issue. As a sign of courtesy, also leave a message on the talk page of any other involved users so they are aware of this discussion. If you are alerting an admin of a vandal, use the {{IP}} template, with the first parameter being the vandal's IP or username. If you are requesting that vote(s) be removed, please use the {{Build}} template, with the first parameter being the build's name.

Please place new requests at the bottom of the corresponding issues heading.

General Issues

General problems, such as user conduct, vandalism, and bans. Also, suggestions can be posted here. All can be resolved by an Administrator. See resolved General Issues here.

Archiving

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I need to archive my talkpage, can an Admin show me how to do this please (not just do it, I'd like to know how to do it for future reference). Thanks. Selket Shadowdancer 12:26, 19 May 2008 (EDT)

Download all builds

Can someone make a thingy for the categories that lets you download every build from that category? (For example, great HA builds. I want to download all the skill templates). I mainly want to do this with all the HA, GvG, and Hero builds. As well as PvE farming. It'd be nice to have all those builds ready ^^ The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.204.149.156 (contribs) .

Constant breaking of 1RV here. Keeps revoting with the same reasoning and vote despite removal. --User:IbreaktoiletsTab Moo 17:30, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

I've changed the reasoning on my vote or changed the numbers on each revote. Learn to check history please. Selket Shadowdancer 17:33, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
Keeping the reason it was removed and adding 0.1 to a score does not count as a satisfactory vote change. It's not a trashworthy build, either accept that and vote accordingly, or don't revote. --User:IbreaktoiletsTab Moo 17:34, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
A problem is that blocking a user doesn't prevent the user from revoting, which appears to be the issue here. — Rapta Rapta Icon1 (talk|contribs) 17:37, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
Give a warning. A ban is still pretty much a threat to stop. --File:GoD Wario Sig.JPG*Wah Wah Wah!* 17:39, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

I think it is Trash, and my vote will continue to reflect MY opinion! You CANNOT tell me how to vote if I do so within the rules of voting and give valid reasoning, to do so is not showing what I truly think of the build as you're just forcing a differing opinion. To ban me over my opinion of a build is quite simply retarded. Give me a fucking GOOD reason why that build is NOT trash instead of removing my vote with stupid remarks that make no sense then crying about it on the AN. Selket Shadowdancer 17:42, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

There's reasoning on the talk page. I can, and will continue to remove your votes when they portray a wrong opinion. --User:IbreaktoiletsTab Moo 17:43, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

Build-Specific Issues

Build-Specific refers to any issue pertaining to the removal of votes, usually resolved by a Build Master or Administrator. See resolved issues here.

If you wish to dispute another user's vote, it is advised to do so on the build's talk page. This section of the noticeboard is intended to notify Admins or Build Masters of issues that can be speedily resolved (e.g. factually incorrect votes) or issues in need of mediation. Avoid debating builds or votes here.

Note: If applicable, please identify specific votes to improve admin response time.

The low ratings don't make sense because Splinter Barrage is baed when you cast Splinter Weapon on yourself, and Great Dwarf Weapon does, in fact, deal more damage than Splinter Weapon (even more damage while combined with Spirit's Strength). You can't deal 222 damage from Triple Shot on a 60AL without Spirit's Strength as your Elite. It won't deal as much AoE, but you should be able to take down a target in just a couple seconds. Votes from Crossfirexiv and Guild of Deals give no reasonable reason to support their votes for this build. There are no given examples of better bars on the builds talk page and requests to the users for explaniation have gone unanswered. Request that the votes be edited by users or removed so that the build has a decent chance of being vetted correctly (I know its not the best build out there and it may not be the most innovative or universal but its effectiveness is definatly better than a 1 of 5). Or at least provide links to builds that are better bars so I can take a look at them. Thanks! The preceding unsigned comment was added by Erondilthevaliant (contribs) 18:15, 18 June 2008.

Coding refers to any issue or bug that needs to be dealt with by a Server Administrator (Gcardinal or Hhhippo). See resolved issues here. PvXcode related issues have their own section below.

Reverting

Somehow when you press undo at revert; you get the old version up, which pretty much makes reverting annoing. —ǘŋƐxɩsƫ 05:17, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

Restoring Votes

I'd suppose that's not a bug, you just don't have space to show. —ǘŋƐxɩsƫ 04:48, 14 May 2008 (EDT)
Right. We don't store the full history of votes, that is edits, removals and restores. At the moment only the last version is kept in the database. I think it would look confusing to have a reason for a restore with a vote, but no sign of when and why and by whom it was removed in the first place. The restoring reason is just a dummy entry at the moment. To implement a full history is on the long-term to do list :-) – HHHIPPO ‹sysop› 13:36, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

When a build is moved to user space...

It keeps the votes on it. Is there a way to check its namespace, and if it isn't the Build: space, it wipes the votes? ~~     Frvwfr2     talk    contribs    admin   09:17, 22 May 2008 (EDT)

I tested this, and basically, when a build with votes is moved to userspace (or probably anywhere outside of the Build: namespace), the ratings still show on recentratings and userratings, but the links to the page don't work (when I moved it to User:Wizardboy777/Test, the links on recentratings and userratings went to Build:Wizardboy777/Test), there's no rate tab on the page and &action=rate doesn't work (I'm assuming it's set up to only work in the Build: namespace). ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 15:40, 22 May 2008 (EDT)
I did more testing, and if one creates the page Build:Wizardboy777/Test while User:Wizardboy777/Test (the one with the rating) still exists, recentratings will link to the first one, but that one won't have any votes. Also, I think auto-wiping votes when moved out of the Build: namespace would be a bad idea. Normal users would be able to wipe votes. Just have recentratings and userratings not display ratings for pages not in the Build: namespace. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 15:53, 22 May 2008 (EDT)
Good point. Thats a good idea. Maybe a category "Ratings on builds in non-build space." ~~     Frvwfr2     talk    contribs    admin   09:00, 23 May 2008 (EDT)
I changed recentratings and userratings. Do we really need that 'category'? (More like a special page, ratings can't be in categories since they are no pages.) – HHHIPPO ‹sysop› 08:23, 24 May 2008 (EDT)

Editing outdated versions of pages

Would it be possible to allow users to specify a default location in preferences for skill templates to be downloaded to? It's somewhat annoying to have to go through and find c:\program files\guild wars\templates\skills every time I want to download one. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 23:52, 8 June 2008 (EDT)

You could create a shortcut to the folder on your desktop, then it's just a matter of dragging it onto the shortcut. Still, it'd be a nice feature to have. --Mafaraxas (talkcontribs) 23:57, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
Where to save is up to your browser, I'm not sure if the server can override that. Maybe with an absolute path. Anyway, it means adding an entry to the preferences, which means all the old ones have to be converted to the new structure etc. which means some work and the need for a test server. I'll put it on the list but don't expect it too soon. For the moment I'd also suggest to use a shortcut. – HHHIPPO ‹sysop› 10:49, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

How come every time I download a code and save it in my templates folder, it always says it's invalid in Guild Wars? — Eloc 12:04, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

I think right now, any template with a '+' in the code is invalid because the + is the URL escape character for a space or something like that. You can go into the folder they're stored in and fix them manually. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 17:24, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

Vertical-align for ratings

When a vote has a very long description, Overall, Effectiveness, Universality and Innovation tend to stick to the bottom instead of being in the same line as ratings. A style="vertical-align: center;" should be able to solve this. ~ ĐONT*TALK 09:48, 14 June 2008 (EDT)
