You have to take it in context. Rotting provides massive pressure; it just takes a lot of energy, and may spread back to your own team. In a hexway disease on your own team is fine since the hexes already reduce pressure on your team to an easily manageable amount. Tainters are bad in hexway because they can't spread hexes.
